New owner of Nani Mau Gardens wants to promote Hilo to Chinese visitors

Staff Pacific Business News

The owner of a California travel company who bought the Nani Mau Gardens for $2.2 million last year from Hilo businessman Ken Fujiyama plans to reopen the 22-acre attraction near Hilo to visitors next month and promote Hilo as a destination for visitors from China.

The Hawaii Tribune Herald reports Helen Koo, who owns America Asia Travel Center in Los Angeles, is negotiating with two local restaurants to reopen the kitchen at Nani Maui and expects to be serving lunch and dinner and holding special events in the restaurant for local residents and tour groups.

The newspaper reports Koo, whose travel business specializes in tours for Chinese visitors, wants to promote Hilo as a destination for visitors from China and plans to bring other travel agencies to the gardens in February.
